One of the most common issues we encounter with Apple computers (Macbooks, iMacs, etc.) deal with Apple’s Authorization Protocols, which can only be fixed by the previous owner of the computer. These are meant to safeguard your privacy, but can pose a problem for new users and our inspectors during the inspection process.
If you are planning on selling your computer to us, please back up all your data so it will be ready to migrate to your new computer.
After that, follow the simple instructions below to deauthorize your computer:
- Open up iTunes
- Click Store from the top menu bar
- Then click Deauthorize This Computer from the dropdown menu
- Enter your Apple ID and password once prompted
This will deauthorize the computer from connecting to your iTunes account and accessing any of your music, apps, and other downloads.
Next, you should remove your device from the Find My Mac program by following the simple instructions below:
- Open System Preferences
- Open iCloud
- Uncheck the box next to Find My Mac
Now your computer is all ready to be sold to and transferred to a new owner.
Don’t worry if you forget to do this before sending in your device, you can still do deauthorize your account from it remotely by following the simple instructions below:
- Log into iCloud (www.icloud.com)
- Open the iCloud application
- Click the Devices button in the top left corner
- Select your device from the dropdown menu and click the X Button to the right of the device title
This will deauthroize your device from the Find My Mac program and make sure your device can be inspected as quick as possible.
